Benevox, A Band You Won't Want to Pass Up

Benevox, a local band to Topeka, Kansas, has one of the best sounds I have heard in a long time. This is a five member band who plays a mix of grunge rock with some metal mixed in. Benevox is unique in the way they blend their music. Their sound is fantastic.

The members of the band are...

Jake Crouse – Lead Guitar
Chauncey Roulette – Rhythm Guitar
Stephen Scheele – Percussion
Samuel Payton – Bass Guitar

Benevox primarily plays locally, but they are looking to branch out. They recently released a Demo on February 2nd, 2016.

Featuring Impending Reflections

Impending Reflections, started for fun by two fathers and sons, turned into an inspired dream. They released their first EP, 'Worlds Collide' and received such a great response from family and friends, they decided to put it online.

Inspired Reflections formed in 2012, but became serious about releasing music in 2013. Their music is inspired by two generations coming together to connect to their listeners. As a family they work together to produce a sound that is amazing.

In their few short years of being together, Impending Reflections has moved forward quickly. They have gone from a family band, to releasing music online, to playing live, and were selected finalist in The Last Band Standing in Rhode Island by the New England Music awards. Not to mention they have shared the stage with Anvil, Scare Don't Fear, Outline in Color, Mad Kings, The Bunny The Bear, Black Tide, and Grammy Nominee artist, Shadows Fall.

This two generational band brings about diversity, story telling, and true art that supports local businesses when possible. Their most recent CD release, 'Kindred' was recorded with locals as well as their music video production, artwork for the CD, and worked with a local comic book creator and comic shop on their music video, 'Ghosts in the Mist'.

Don't Give Up

I'm writing this blog because, the last few weeks I have thought about giving up. Giving my dream of being an author and blogger. I have felt frustrated and like a failure. I know others have felt the same way I have.

I'm not giving up though. Saturday night I was talking to my best friend's mom and letting her know I was working on formatting my next book correctly, but it is published on Kindle. I will say, yes many formatting problems I'm struggling with so I'm not promoting it. She went on to ask about Underground Evil. I told her it was still in the works. She yelled at me, yes yelled at me because she's been waiting. Wow, what a compliment! Yes from someone I know, but if the first book in the series was completely awful she would have let me know.

Still feeling a little discouraged, a co-worker and good friend asked how I got started with my idea and dream. At first I was caught off guard. She said to me, you're doing it, what can I do to get started? My first thought was, I'm really not doing it. Then I turned that thought around, yes I am doing it. I may not be where I want to be, but I'm getting there.

Here is the point I want to make. While working towards your goal, dream, or idea,  you are going to feel frustrated at times. You are going to feel like a failure. You are going to get down on yourself. It's ok. It's also ok to fail. Without failing you can't succeed. I know that's a cliché but it's very true.

Failure happens, but you can't fail without trying. You also can't succeed without failure. You have to fail to learn and move forward.

So here's to failing and learning from those failures and I raise my diet coke to toast you. Don't give up. Don't let fear stop you. Don't let frustration stop you. Follow your dreams and do it with love.

A Review of 'His Assistant' by Sharon Cummin

His Assistant, is a great read. Brooke's mom had passed away. After her passing, Brooke learned who her father was. When she learned her father was, the owner of a business who was hiring, she immediately applied for the job so she could get to know him.

Once hired, Brooke met her boss, Kevin. He's, a true business man who puts on the persona of being hard. He's bossy and somewhat arrogant. Kevin didn't realize he had met his match with Brooke. She stood her ground with him. Never before had another assistant spoke to him the she had.

Shortly after being hired, Brooke is sent to Las Vegas on a business with Kevin. Their "relationship" takes a few twists on the trip.

As I was reading I wanted to know what Brooke was going to do next. She definitely kept Kevin wondering in the book. The characters in this book will seem real to you.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was hard to put down. If you like adult romance, I highly recommend this book for you to read. I promise you won't be disappointed. You will finish wanting to read the rest of the series.

Happy reading. Below are the links for Sharon Cummin

Their Beauty and Safety is Jeopardized... Our History... Our Wild Horses

Nothing can compare to the beauty of a horse in its natural habitat. I just learned our wonderful free spirited horses are being tortured, murdered, sterilized, and rounded up illegally. I started researching with the help of someone and was shocked by the videos and stories.

The wild horse is part of our history, our wild west. They are an icon of what our country once was. Wild and free. Now their freedom is in jeopardy.

One of the documents I have read over and over is the 'The Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971'. This act was put into place after Wild Horse Annie fought for many  years for their freedom. This act, in my opinion was a good start, that the government didn't expand on. Why do I put it this way? The act does not spell out how many wild horses are protected.

This is only my opinion, but to me this is a loop hole so the government will have a legal way to do what they want with the wild horses. Unless, we, the people who vote in our government know the numbers of protected horses, how do we know if what they are doing is legal?

Let me tell you how. It says in the act, the horses are to be put down because of being lame, sick, elderly, or over population, and are to be put done in a humane way. I have had videos and articles presented to me, and it doesn't appear this is happening.

I watched a video where a foal was chased down and it broke it's leg running for safety. Is this humane? I don't think so, and now because of this, that man could legally put the foal down because it became lame.

Pictures have been presented of horses being rounded and trampling each other. Some have broken their necks. Fouls killed due to, too many horses forced into trailers. They are riding in cramped trailers where they can't move for long hours.

Since being a little girl, horses have been a passion for me. I remember playing barbies with my cousin and we would talk about the horses we'd have as adults. When I was 16, our mare Cocoa had her first filly we named Maybell. Oh how I loved that horse. The bond I had with her was amazing. I loved wrapping my arms around her neck and taking in the smell of her.

If you have ever loved a horse you would understand the love of watching them run and their freedom. Taking a wild horse from its habitat, home, and only life they have known is wrong and inhumane. How would you like to lose your freedom? How would you like to be evicted from your home and possibly face death, sterilization, or fear of what is to come? Think about that for a moment. Horses are souls and free spirits.

Let our wild horses be free in their home to run. Let them have happiness. Let them continue showing what our wild west once was.  Help support the advocacy groups fighting for their rights. Help support some of the rescues.

Watch this video. It's an hour of watching the wild horse in their habitat with some music Watch this and ask yourself why our government wants to destroy such beauty?  1 Hour Relax with Wild Horses (Mustangs) & Music. Such a heartfelt video. The second video shows a roundup. After watching that will your heart reach out to these horses?

This video shows a round up.

Featuring Airport Impressions

Airport Impressions is an amazing band who writes songs that tell a story. Their songs can be felt right into heart. I had the honor of meeting them in the Indie Scene Radio chat room. When I say honor, this is a true honor.

This band is currently based out of Malta, a small island south of Sicily in the Mediterranean. Locally they have played in many major venues and hosted some of their own concerts. Performing abroad is their next focus to perform for new audiences.
Airport Impressions was started by Errol and Johann in Ireland in 2008. A year later Chris and Steve joined them to complete the four man band.
Their first commercial release, ‘Beside You’, obtained local airplay quickly.

‘Minutes of a Lifetime’ was their first official release in September, 2010. This album brings back reflections of our lives.  This is a track album that contains singles such as ‘Freedom’ and ‘Walk with Me’. ‘Walk with Me’ gained a few local awards, Best Song, Best Band, and the entire album was named Best Album of the Year, 2010 in both local and national awards.
Their first EP with five songs was released in 2009 called ‘Seeing with Eyes Closed’. This EP contains the first songs written and recorded by the band. The song ‘Boderline’ was a local hit.

Their most recent release, ‘Mariette’ in 2014, is somewhat different than their other releases. The songs on this album are based upon personal experiences or encounters and society itself. The band uses acoustic guitars as the main songwriting influence in this album. Singles on this album such as, ‘Hymns of June’, ‘Berlin’, and ‘Star Signs’ are already hits.
Check out their music on iTunes and YouTube. If you are ever in Malta, catch one of their performances. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
